Classic Mint Julep

A great summer patio cocktail and a tradition of Churchill Downs and for the Kentucky Derby since 1938.

2.5 ounces bourbon
1 ounce simple syrup
Fresh mint springs
Crushed & cubed ice

Place ice cubes and a handful of mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Pour in the bourbon and simple syrup (recipe below) and stir. Fill a highball glass or silver Julep cup with crushed ice. Strain mixture over ice adding more ice to fill glass, stir well and garnish with mint.

Bar Basics:
SIMPLE SYRUP RECIPE: 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup of water. In a saucepan combine; bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool. To make MINT SYRUP from here, take a bunch of mint and stir it in the dissolved sugar water in a heat safe container, let chill for 1 hour and remove leaves.
